Message from the President
The 30th Annual Meeting of Japan Society of Gene and Cell Therapy (JSGCT2024)
President Masahiro Toda MD, PhD
Department of Neurosurgery, Keio University School of Medicine
It is with great pleasure that I announce the 30th Annual Meeting of the Japanese Society for Gene and Cell Therapy (JSGCT 2024), which will be held at the Pacifico Yokohama Conference Center from July 16 to 18, 2024. The theme of this conference is “Development of Innovative Medicine.”
As a driving force, the desire of researchers to protect the future of patients with intractable diseases will change the future of medicine. Therefore, the development of new medical treatments is an important social issue, and revolutionary gene therapies based on two essential concepts, namely, repairing disease-causing genes and using genes to treat diseases, are expected to play a major role in improving medical care. Moreover, these gene therapies are already attracting interest not only from researchers but also from pharmaceutical companies. In creating innovative medicine in Japan, the pharmaceutical industry, government, and academia must not only collaborate within academic circles but also promote innovations in medicine as a social theme.
In 2024, the JSGCT will celebrate its 30th anniversary. At this meeting, we hope to explore potential pathways to innovations that will change society and demonstrate attractive gene therapy research activities to the young researchers of the future. It is important to share insights and discuss future issues in gene therapy research as openly as possible, such as how Japan can contribute to advance science in our increasingly internationalized world.
We hope that this meeting will be meaningful for those of you who plan to attend, and that it will offer an opportunity for active discussion regarding the future.
